After School Programs

YBMS currently hosts an after school program at C.V Bethel Senior High School (Nassau).  This years program has students exploring topics that leading scientists are currently studying within the Bahamas. Topics include aquaculture, bonefish, blue holes, coral reefs, lionfish, sharks, mangroves and marine mammals. Students will spend their first semester learning about their topic through peer reviewed scientific articles, books and credible educational websites. Each group will produce a tri-fold display and a 15-minute presentation. Presentations will be open to the general public. During the winter break students will be sent to research sites throughout the country to experience fieldwork directly related to their topic of study. During the spring semester students will develop an outreach/ educational program for the Bahamian community focused around their topic of study. At the end of the semester students will have the opportunity to carry out their outreach project.

Exploring the Exuma Cays land and Sea Park, swimming with sharks and over stromatolites. Summer camps for 2010 are planed for Andros, Cat Island and Exuma.
