Neko Meicholas is a painter/graphic artist/photographer, whose pursuits in art are diverse. Meicholas, owner of the publishing company Guanima Press, is one of the country’s leading graphic artists, noted particularly for his striking, interpretive book covers. He has designed and published books for several Bahamian authors, a few of whom are Patricia Glinton-Meicholas, Michael Pintard, Cindy Armbrister and Eugenie Nuttal. He produced the NE2 catalog for the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas, for which he also took the photographs. In 2005/2006 he created a photo catalog for the new Cotton Bay resort development in Eleuthera.

Neko Meicholas’ paintings are deeply thoughtful metaphors, noted for their spirituality and social commentary. Neko also works in ceramics. He prefers a single-fire technique. Using the ceramic piece as a 3-dimensional canvas, he then finishes it by painting it with acrylics. He feels that he has more control over the appearance of the piece and does not have to depend on the vagaries of the kiln.

As a graphic artist and commercial photographer Meicholas has worked for Bapak Bahamas, Jessica's Tileworks, Antonius Roberts, The Central Bank of The Bahamas, NAPCO Printing Service, The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, The Roman Catholic Diocese, The College of The Bahamas, The Counsellors Ltd, Colina Imperial (formerly Imperial Life), St Martin Monastery, The Bahamas Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, The AIDS Foundation of The Bahamas, Imperial Optical, the new Cotton Bay development and more.

As a publisher/artist he recently completed: Yinna Volume 2 (Journal of The Bahamas Association for Cultural Studies) and a history of Bahamian theatre. He is currently working on a collection of illustrations for a children’s book to be published by Guanima in 2008 and a collection of paintings and ceramic pieces for a solo exhibition he is planning for 2008. Lately, Meicholas has found that the ocean and its flora and fauna have exercised a major influence on the subject matter of his work. He has also been working on a collection of linocuts. Neko jokes that he was shanghaied into the Danguillecourt project.
